Overview
Our client, a dynamic team centric contract manufacturer in Central Vermont, seeks a Design Engineer with strong mechanical and some electronics experience area to join their Engineering Team. Collaborating across departments and with clients, you'll ensure efficient and consistent product manufacturing, emphasizing electromechanical expertise and adherence to Lean principles.  The ideal candidate will have expertise in interfacing with exterior clients in refining client designs to optimize product functionality and manufacturability.
 
Responsibilities
·      Lead design and development of new production cells, aligning with product and quality requirements.
·      Optimize facility and line layouts through Kaizen and Lean events to enhance workflow.
·      Design and create necessary test fixtures and gauges, coordinating with external sources as needed.
·      Identify opportunities for tooling, systems, and process upgrades with newer technologies.
·      Develop and maintain documentation, including prints and Work Instructions.
·      Support production team training and collaborate on CAD drawings with Mechanical Engineers.
·      Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and produce prototypes for design validation.
·      Utilize technical skills to assess and improve product design and manufacturing processes.
·      Interface with vendors and Purchasing for component sourcing and collaborate with stakeholders on projects.
·      Calculate project costs and lead times as required.
 
Qualifications
·      Bachelor's or associate degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
·      Minimum 5 years of design engineering experience, with electromechanical products.
·      Proficiency in mechanical design software (e.g., SolidWorks) and developing effective fixtures.
·      Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturing principles and experience with work instructions.
·      Familiarity with sheet metal, precision machining, and plastic injection molding.
·      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at working in cross-functional teams.
·      Proficiency in MS Office, MRP, and familiarity with ISO quality systems.
·      Self-directed, proactive, and solutions-oriented with a positive attitude.
 
 
This position is at our client’s Vermont manufacturing facility.  Compensation based on experience.
